. . .
The holidays flew by like the year had somewhere to be. Since we didnât celebrate Christmas, Cappadonna booked the perfect beach cottage getaway for us. For that week, our family hung out on the beach and swam in the ocean. Promise and Rory had too much fun kicking their feet in the sand. They were both beach babies and loved being in the pool.
I was excited when Aimee and Capella came down with Rory because we were all together again. Despite me and Erin both marrying brothers, twins at that, and being super close, the reality was that our lives were different, and holidays would be different for us.
When it came to Christmas, Cappadonna was strict on not celebrating it. I, on the other hand didnât mind celebrating the commercialized part of the holiday. Allowing Promise to open gifts and have that part with her cousins and nephew.
As his wife, I was going to respect and go with what my husband said, so I didnât argue with him about it. This was our religion, and this was how we were planning on raising our family. Capp wanted to make sure that he made it clear about Christmas. The last time I had celebrated Christmas was the year before my Yaya passed away. When I converted, it had become a regular day for me. All I knew is that for Eid, I couldnât wait to have a big celebration in our home and invite our family over to experience our version of Christmas.
The tradition that Cappadonna started with us traveling during the holidays felt special enough. Something that we would look forward to as Promise grew, and I couldnât wait for it. The week away was much needed, and I felt like we were able to reconnect again, as a family.
With as much as Cappadonna was standing firm, I knew the older Promise became, the more trouble he was going to have standing his ground when it came to Christmas. It was easy because she was young now and didnât know what was going on. However, once she was older and witnessed her cousins celebrating Christmas, she would look at her father with those deep chocolate eyes, he was going to be like putty in her little hands.
âFuck no, he look crazy as shit,â Capp blurted at the man looking our way, and me wanting to become invisible.
Everybody wanted a man like Capp until he opened his mouth and had us being looked at all crazy. The man turned and continued to put everything he needed for my baby together.
I had been telling Cappadonna that I wanted to get her ears pierced, and he kept pushing it off because he didnât want her to start crying. When he saw me loading her up in the car with Big Mike, he suddenly wanted to come along. He held Promise like I was trying to offer our baby up as a sacrificial lamb or something.
âPlease donât show your ass in here, Leroy.
